Mediums

2025 - Solo Exhibition

What speaks to you?
What do you choose to listen to?
Do you say anything back to it?
Why does it resonate with you?
Who makes you feel?

This body of work encapsulates the very things that speak to me and through me. Tying together cultural identity, spirituality, and time, Mediums is a manifestation of what makes us who we are and what we bring throughout our lives. This includes family traditions, childhood memories, religious ideology, and art forms such as music, literature, and film. References to present and future times are subtle, yet the past and its historical contexts are permanently embedded. Beyond the physical materials and what they create, there is another key element involved, which I like to call the “third language.” At first glance, these symbols may appear repetitive and random, but within them lies deep and interconnected meaning. Each piece continues a lineage of understanding, one that interprets identity and existence. Though rooted in our sense of self, we are continuously transforming - expanding our unique voice in the shared language of art.

Sequin/ce

2024 - Duo Exhibition

A community co-created collaborative project that positioned queer JOY as a mode of resistance. Organized by Joy Cotton and Aspen Monet Laboy in response to legislation that destabilizes and disenfranchises Nebraska’s LGBTQIA2S+ communities, Sequin/ce organizers collected photographs that visually interpret notions of queer joy through an open submission process. They assembled photographs into a large-scale collage, wrapping the gallery in a visual manifesto of collective power, enduring presence, and joyful resistance.

2023 - Group Exhibition

<pr0xy-fl3$h> reimagines the future of the corporeal image. Organized by Alex Jacobsen, and featuring work by Margo Johnson, Aspen Monet Laboy, and Matthew Strasburger, the exhibition/laboratory envisions a future where bodies are liberated from the interdependencies of their discrete parts; where autonomous organs emit their own frequencies and detached appendages glitch in the collapsing space between physical and digital forms. Itself a body, <pr0xy-fl3$h> vibrates with restless movement toward unsettled futures.

Open Stall

2022 - Solo Exhibition

Curated by Mary E.D.J. Lawson, Open Stall was presented at the first of a four part series project called Everyday Performances. Centered around housing rights in the community, this installation addressed issues of accessibility and inclusivity of public restrooms - especially for LGBTQ+ individuals and those experiencing homelessness. It is called "Open Stall" because the visitor can enter, intrude, and observe the space as they please, resembling the unawareness society has for the need and right of privacy in public areas.

El Baño

2022 - Solo Exhibition

Held at Fleabane Gallery owned by Joelle Wellansa Sandfort, El Baño represents the relationship we have with ourselves in an intimate place; the bathroom. Fragments of augmented reflections are key, transporting the viewer to a familiar yet uncomfortable scene. The installation addresses themes of identity, sexuality, gender roles, exploitation, addiction, mental health, and self worth.
